It’s Halloween Time for the League of Aroden!

It’s that spooky time of year again! Yes, that’s right! It’s Halloween! I know some people who absolutely live for this time of the year, so let’s get into the festive spirit with them and have some spooktacular fun this month! It’s also a great month to introduce new players to our Pathfinder gaming fun and that’s how we are going to begin the month! Reminder that you can sign up for all of these tables at our League of Aroden Warhorn page right here. Be sure to select the location and date for the table you want to play at. This helps us plan ahead so we can be sure to have enough GMs for everyone. You can also notify us at leagueofaroden@gmail.com if you are bringing new players or have questions.

First up, we are going to host three events at each of our FLGSs over the month of October. This Thursday, October 5th at Game Arena in beautiful downtown Hannibal, we are going to be offering 5-01 Intro: Year of Unfettered Exploration (1-4R). We will also be running this same scenario on October 14th at Valhalla’s Gate in Columbia, and on October 15th at the Adair County Annex in Kirksville. This is a great event to invite potential players to attend. Let’s see what this adventure has in store for us!

It’s time to explore! With the Society coming off of their recent victory in finally defeating an old enemy, they choose to turn to refocus on the goals of the Pathfinder Society: Explore! Report! Cooperate! As a celebration for such a successful year, there’s a party being hosted with all sorts of friends both new and old in attendance. However, when one of Fola Barun’s dear friends needs to be entertained in order to prepare a surprise, it’s up to the Pathfinders to show him around the famous Maze of the Open Road. When he starts to encourage exploration, new doors appear and new adventures await!

Intro: Year of Unfettered Exploration is the introduction to the plot of the Year of Unfettered Exploration. This scenario presents characters and themes that will feature in Year 5’s metaplot, and so it is is a natural starting point for players looking to jump into the action.

Again, this is a repeatable scenario which means you can play it endless times as long as you use a different character each time. The folks at Org Play have done this with the intro scenario for the last three seasons which helps experienced players invite and play along with their friends who are just joining the Pathfinder Society. We have plenty of L1 pregens for all of our new players too. We are planning to pass the hat on the 5th in Hannibal and order some pizza so that it arrives around 8 PM which should put it around time for a break in the action. So, invite a friend, and come enjoy some camadrie at the gaming table with a d20 and a slice of pizza!

I know we are going to see if anyone wants to go over to the Columbia Mall on the 14th and have some fun at Level Up. I haven’t bowled in years, but this will be a great chance to hit the lanes again. Who knows what craziness we will get into over there? I’m a sucker for video games too. If they had a Baldur’s Gate 3 machine there on a giant screen, I might be living there. I think we will get some pizza while we play in Kirksville as well. Let’s see what happens.

Meanwhile, as we play weekly in Hannibal, we will be offering PFS2 scenarios all month long every Thursday evening. On the 12th we will be offering two scenarios from Season 5. The first is 5-04 Equal Exchanges – Necessary Introductions (1-4). Since the defeat of Aslynn, the Waterfall has become more of a staple around the Grand Lodge, starting to hold strange, isolated meetings with leadership and seemingly putting together some plan. Her most recent request is that a team of Pathfinder agents journey to Hwanggot and meet with the underworld dragon, Valashinaz as a introductory team. Venture-Captain Yi Da Som arranged the meeting through Valashinaz’s kobold assistant, Purepurin. Unfortunately, between then and the PCs arriving, Purepurin forgot about them in the midst of pickling recipes from goblins and creepy crawlies invading the vaults! It’s up to the PCs to help Purepurin bring Valashinaz’s vaults under control while she summons the dragon to ensure these introductions go off without a hitch!

The second scenario on the 12th is 5-02 The Blackwood Lost (3-6). The Pathfinder dig site near the Tskikha iruxi enclave in the Blackwood Swamp was, for some time now, considered one of the safer Azlanti ruins to investigate, to the point that it was used as field training for groups of initiates. Having been cleared out years ago by agents, the site was an archeological treasure trove for learning of the elemental magics of ancient Azlant. Something has gone wrong though. The elemental planes have changed in ways that scholars are, even now, struggling to understand, and the latent power within those ruins has manifested. It’s been weeks since anyone has heard from the initiates currently on site or the iruxi allies nearby. The Pathfinders must race against time into the bizarre magics wrought by the elements to rescue the Blackwood lost.

Both scenarios are good ones to enjoy. I’ve ran 5-02 seven times now (Gen Con!) and it is an interesting one for players since all of the content is from the newest rule book, Rage of Elements.

As we move closer to Halloween, we are going to start offering some horror themed scenarios in Hannibal. I am hoping my portable map case television is fixed by then so I can run a session of Crown of the Kobold King. I would really like to wrap that up soon, but if not, we will just adjust and play on! We will be offering 1-02 The Mosquito Witch (1-4) and 2-14 Lost in Flames (3-6) on October 19th. 1-02 is a fun horror scenario whose blurb reads: Decades ago, witnesses reported a fearsome cryptid outside of the quiet River Kingdoms town of Shimmerford. Dubbed the Mosquito Witch, it was rarely seen since and quickly became a beloved local legend that the town celebrates and promotes to attract visitors. But when recent attacks began savaging livestock and townsfolk alike, many have started believing the Mosquito Witch was real all along. The PCs travel to Shimmerford to unravel the cryptid mystery, but might they just become the witch’s next victim?

Our other scenario for that night, 2-14 continues the meta plot for Season 2. With a member of the Pathfinder Societyā€™s leadership missing, the Society begins sending several groups of agents into the wilds for clues. To ensure the safety of the Pathfindersā€™ base camp in the distant lands of Iobaria, a group of heroes must uncover the truth behind what is happening around the ruins of a cyclops city, and begin putting a stop to a plan set in motion thousands of years ago!

Finally, to close out the month and celebrate Halloween, we are going to offer a special One-Shot scenario on October 26th which showcases the Gunslinger from the Guns & Gears rule book in a horror-themed setting. You won’t even need characters for this adventure because they are supplied for you. Everyone will get to play one of four different gunslinger pregens, all of whom are Level 3. Taking a much-needed relaxing break in between escapades, four gun-toting adventurers post up in a dingy bar in one of Alkenstar’s entertainment districts. Right across the street at a theater, people flood inside to catch the premiere of a highly-advertised play, but what comes out of the theater is far more dangerous. As people scatter to safety in the dusty streets, its up to the group of gunslingers in the bar to set things right. Will you survive the horror of that night? The only way to know is to show up and roll the d20 as you shoot your way out of death’s embrace that night!

I don’t about you all, but I plan to top off the month by going to the Washington Theater in Quincy and watching The Rocky Horror Picture Show! I haven’t been to a Rocky live showing in decades and am looking forward to going again. Tickets are only $20. Click on the link above to find out more information. If anyone else wants to go, let me know and we will make a party out of it.

Wow! What a month of gaming we have lined up for you! I hope to see you and a friend at the tables this month rolling the d20!
