The fourth lodge to be created as part of the League of Aroden is the Emerald Goblins Guild of Northeast Missouri. Clear back in 2016, I was looking for a place to run a campaign and had been talking to the Hastings staff about it, but their bankruptcy and liquidation ended those plans. With no gaming store in Kirksville, the real trick was in finding a venue. We had been planning to start this lodge for over a year, even before the pandemic hit. There had been some talk about organizing one in Kirksville, but when the pandemic struck, it had stopped everything in its tracks. Once we started live play up, we were looking at Kirksville again, but the combination of a few things caused us to delay its start until after the summer of 2022.

I never doubted we would find players in Kirksville and the surrounding areas. This was confirmed when one of our players in the area alerted us to a Facebook group known as the Adair County Tabletop Gaming Group, which was seeking to connect players in the area. That then connected us to the NEMO Guild of Geekery who also wanted to connect players in the area. They had scheduled a game day in Kirksville for August of 2022 and that’s when we decided it was time to get things rolling!

The turnout for the game days has been terrific for all types of gaming which is not a surprise. There is a demand in the area by players who would like to play games with the larger community. I don’t know if a traditional game store would make it in Kirksville, but I think one that covered a broader range of business sectors would do quite well. Lately, some talk of creating a public corporation like the Green Bay Packers have in order to raise the necessary funding for launching a game store has been brought up. This might be our long term solution. Time will tell.

Until then, we are planning to meet on the second Sunday of the month with the NEMO Guild of Geekery at the Adair County Annex Building. They will also be meeting on the Saturday of that weekend, but we are not planning to offer any Society games on the Saturdays so that everyone can enjoy playing some D&D games running that day.

We are happy to work with the NEMO Guild of Geekery to provide for gaming operations in the area.

If you are interested in playing with us at any of our events, you are quite welcome to attend! You can reach out to us via our e-mails, our Facebook pages, or just show up! We always enjoy it when new players sit down at the tables. We have a contest going right now to select the goblin mascot of the guild too!

Here are some of the advantages you get to enjoy since the Absalom Lodge is part of the League of Aroden:

  1. AWESOME PLAYER EXPERIENCE – We seek to deliver as awesome a player experience as we can at every table. This is our hobby and we enjoy it. We want you to enjoy it just as much as we do. The best way for that to happen is to make having fun our main goal.
  2. NO TABLE FEES – The League of Aroden never charges a table fee for any of our events. The venue may charge a fee and some do, but we ourselves do not.
  3. GM TRAINING PROGRAM – We have a GM Academy program which we offer annually to train our GMs to be better at what they do. Our League officers are required to GM regularly to hone their craft and have the opportunity to consult with a 5-Star/Glyph GM privately. Two of our Venture-Officers have extensive experience in GMing and have earned multiple Stars, Novas, and Glyphs. They too are available to consulting our GMs. Several of our GMs have already earned their first 2e Glyph and are working steadily toward their second one.
  4. VENTURE-OFFICER CADRE – Every lodge has a Venture-Officer with a higher ranking VO to report to in the chain of command in order to resolve any issues that come up. The VOs are tasked with following the rules of the Organized Play program so that your gaming experience is consistent throughout the League, and therefore throughout Organized Play itself globally.
  5. COMMUNICATIONS – We maintain this blog, several Facebook pages, Warhorn sign-up pages, and e-mail lists for each lodge. We try to notify players well in advance of our events and offerings. We make the rules and information available to everyone so that they can learn about the game and participate at the level they prefer.
